Margaret's Musings on Cats

White momma cat is tame!!

White momma cat is tame!!

The mother cat let me pet her today!  Demanded I pet her!  She is tame!  Thank God, so now I can easily get her to the vet to be spayed in a mere cat carrier, as opposed to trapping her, and she certainly could be rehomed as a true pet cat.  One who comes for pets and pampering, just what most people want in a pet cat.  She was just scared at first.  She is so beautiful, with a sweet, sweet face.  And she can’t be a year old yet.  She looks like an “old” kitten, around 8 or 9 months old.

She was outside a bit ago, and I brought moist food out.  I set down the bowl only two feet from where I was squatting and didn’t move back as I used to do.  She hesitated a few seconds, then came on over and chowed down.  I started to reach out, she backed up, repeat, but then the third time she sniffed my finger.  Next thing I knew she came right next to me purr-growling, so I tried to pet her and then she started rubbing on me!!  I gave her neck and head scratches, which she loved.  We had a petting, scratching rub session for over 5 minutes!  When I stopped petting/scratching, she growled, as if to say, “You better keep petting me!”.  At first I thought the growling meant to stop, but when I did, she would rub hard against me, so obviously it did mean, “Keep on petting, dag nabbit!  I love it, but I’m still a little scared so I don’t want to think I’m totally sweet.”  I did a little test to see if it might be easy to get her in a cat carrier, so I picked her up off the ground a foot or two, (claws facing away from me of course), and she tolerated it very well!  Just one mild wiggle, and that was likely because her back legs weren’t being supported.  I probably could have cuddled her to me, like I do my Galen baby, but I didn’t want to push things, plus I don’t know if she might have any diseases such as ringworm.

She likely would have stayed a lot longer, getting a head and neck massage, but I didn’t want to encourage her to stay away from her babies for too long, so I finally left while she was taking her after dinner bath.  I am rather sure that now she will bring her babies around to eat once she weans them.
