Cat Vs. Cat: Keeping Peace When You Have More Than One Cat , by Pam Johnson-Bennett
Pam Johnson-Bennett offers simple solutions to ease tension and modify behavior with cats in a multiple cat home. She tells how to plan, set up, and maintain a home environment that will help multiple cats live in peace. Discussed is the importance of territory, the specialized communication cats use to establish relationships and hierarchies, and how to interpret cat behavior that humans sometimes just call "bad". A wealth of information is provided on how to diffuse tension, prevent squabbles and ambushes from starting, how to blend two different "cat families" and more.
Highly recommened for all, even those who have had many cats for many years. A must-read before introducing new cats to a home with existing cats.

Twisted Whiskers: Solving Your Cat's Behavior Problems, by Pam Johnson-Bennett
Pam Johnson-Bennett, a feline behaviorist, provides much information about how to manage many problems with cats. Common cat problems such as aggression, abnormal eating habits, shyness and litter box difficulties are addressed. She gives some step-by-step behavior modification tips.

Hiss and Tell: True Stories from the Files of a Cat Shrink , by Pam Johnson-Bennett
This book sheds light on the communication breakdowns between cats and their humans. Feline behaviorist Pam Johnson-Bennett shares some of the wildest house calls of her career. Why does Rambo only attack his owner on Sunday? Why did Johnson-Bennett have to climb into the bedroom window of a client's house? What does Freddie know about an owner's wife, that sets Freddie to spray urine on only her clothes?
While entertaining to read, these sixteen true cases of bizarre behavior by cats show that some detective work, an open mind, and common sense combined with a knowledge of cats and their behavior patterns, can resolve issues for so many "problem" cats. |

The Cat Who Cried for Help: Attitudes, Emotions, and the Psychology of Cats , by Nicholas Dodman
If you have a cat with a serious behavior problem, this book is a must read. Dr. Nicholas Dodman is a professor of behavioral pharmacology at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and director of the Behavior Clinic. His book is divided into three sections: aggressive behavior, emotional behavior, and compulsive cats. With examples from his own practice, Dodman intelligently communicates symptoms, treatment options, and helpful tips for prevention.
Dodman demonstrates how even some of the most difficult behaviors can be changed by using a combination of behavior modification and in some cases drug therapies. Do note that at the time that book was written by Dr. Dodman, the medication Clomicalm was not yet made, so he didn't talk about it in that book. But since then, it one of the medications Dr. Dodman recommends for some cats for some situations. (Clomicalm is actually beef flavored clomipramine hydrorcloride, an antidepressent that also helps with anxiety.) |

Cats Need Toys
Play is vital for cats, to relieve stress and boredom. Be sure to have toys for your cat, and engage in some interactive play daily.
The Cat Charmer is a safe streamer toy to use for interactive play.

Toys that move when used are good for when no humans are home to interact with the cat.
The Star Chaser Lighted Cat Toy and Scratcher is a good "moving" toy. The lighted ball moves easily around the track with a swat of the paw, giving the cat something to chase.
